This month we began a Month of Creating where people from around the globe are joining me to create anything they want to for the month of July. Today I wanted to share what I’ve been creating. As I mentioned before, I would not describe myself as creative. What I decided to hone in on to help me create is what I am already doing, writing.
Before I introduce what I’ve been up to, let me tell you a little bit about my son. My son is enamored with superheroes. He knows their names, their roles in their fake societies, and their secret identities. He has a collection of figures and masks. He enjoys their stories. So when I was thinking about what I would do, I decided I wanted to involve my son and it needed to be a comic book.
We are at the beginning stages of development but may I introduce to you, “Greener.” Greener is the name of our superhero (name provided by my son). Here is the premise:
Greener is a superhero who receives his power from God. His secret identity name is Christian. Greener’s special powers are to help share the good of Christ to others, he will help solve conflicts, he will fight off the evil within him (sin), and maybe every now and then he’ll display some amazing powers like the ability to jump really high.
The first stories my son and I are working on involve the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:18-24). We are going to develop stories that provide lessons on love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Christian or one of his friends will obviously be struggling with idolatry, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissentions, divisions, and envy.
I want a unique and fun way to involve my child in an activity that we can do together as well as teach him the Bible and ultimately the gospel. This comic book experiment provides the opportunity to be creative, have fun, and teach him about Christ. The entire family is involved. My husband, who is actually quite creative, will be attempting to draw the characters, my son and I will make up the stories, and my daughter will help us put the book together. I will also make a digital version so I can share it with you.
I hope you will join Christian on his adventures! More soon.
Now I want to know; what have you been doing this month? If you haven’t started, no worries think of something you might be interested in creating and get started.
