One Year Later: Words Matter

By Trillia Newbell

Over the past few years I have emerged myself in the writing world. It started with blogging once in a while about fitness. I then began to write for my local paper, The Knoxville News-Sentinel. The burning desire in my heart was to begin writing as much as possible from my Christian point of view thus beginning Women of God Magazine, our blog style ezine here.

It has been a journey filled with unexpected joys, fear, and revelation. I’ve learned much about the Christian community. I’ve learned that there are many women eager to share. I’ve learned that I really don’t know anything about much of anything—which has made it wonderful to be learning so much!

But what I’ve learned the most is that words matter. People actually read the words that we write. Yikes! Not only are people reading, they are learning, processing, even searching for encouragement from our words.

Perhaps this is why God’s Word addresses our tongues so often and with such warnings as:

“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.” (James 1:26)

“So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!” (James 3:5 )

“When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” (Proverbs 10:19 )

So as I approach one year of hosting this little site I’m no longer simply excited about sharing my worldview in my writing. I’m no longer thinking about who I can feature on this site because they would be neat, fun or for the sake of sharing information. I’m no longer simply sharing because I love Jesus and I want others to know God.

I’ve grown-up a little.

I now realize that I will give an account to God for every article, word, and feature.

Excited and thankful

One might think that growing in this sort of knowledge might deter me from writing. No way! It’s the best news I’ve heard since I started. Why? Because now– with a sweet fear of the Lord–our second year, by the grace of God, will be that much more effective. We will continue to have fun features, talk about hard issues related to women, and be as REAL as humanly possible. This is, as you know, about Real Women and Real Issues and most importantly our Real and glorious God.

Keep your eyes open

Over the next few weeks (including this week!!) I will begin uploading articles and features related to friendship, adoption, marriage and much more. Keep your eyes open. As always I will send out a newsletter with all of the details.

Until then, thank you for reading. Thank you for spending your year with me!

Trillia

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.  (Psalm 19:14 )
