Tim Challies: A Note of ThanksBy Trillia Newbell | April 3rd, 2013 | Category: Uncategorized | 6 comments
A few weeks ago Tim Challies posted a piece about the blessings of giving rather than receiving. Much of his post focused on blogging and linking to other writers’ work. It was a very encouraging post, one that I can affirm was written from practical experience as well as a heart that loves to advance gospel work and other people who are doing gospel work. I can share this because I have been a recipient of Tim’s kindness and generosity.
In 2007 I decided to embark on the blogging world. My focus at the time was on fitness. I remember searching the web for bloggers and trying to figure out what to do. I came upon Tim’s site and realized that he linked up to other bloggers. I sent him an email sharing my desire to get started, introducing myself. He didn’t know me from Adam. I was an absolute stranger. I assume he looked at some of what I had written and then said, “Sure!”
I was shocked! I was so encouraged. I could hardly believe that someone who appeared to be an up and coming “big name” would not only link to me would do it gladly and didn’t seem the least bit annoyed that I had asked. I was really excited about my message (and the gospel!!) and didn’t know how else to spread it besides asking someone for help.
Since that time I’ve emailed Tim from time to time to ask advice. He’s never seemed bothered by me. He doesn’t seem to be concerned that I am a “no name.” He knows that I can’t do one thing for him. There is nothing I can give him; really all I’ve ever done is receive from him. He has supported me (off and on) as I have grown in ministry. Often in the background (not always linking stuff) and sometimes unknowingly, simply through his own writing.
So today I wanted to thank Tim. It’s his encouragement (along with Stephen Altrogge’s!!!) that has allowed me to press on in faith in writing. It was his support that I imagine he thought was small at the time that spurred me on to good works.
So from one small-time blogger to a big-time blogger, thank you so much! I thank you, my family thanks you. Thank you for giving away your time and resources to others. You are a blessing, Tim! Praying God would bless and prosper your ministry!
It would now be my desire to do the same for others.
